Hype Beast : 23-year-old New Orleans sensation Frank Ocean has garnered a lot of press recently from his association with the hip-hop group of the moment, Odd Future. The singer/songwriter has recently released the video for one of his solo endeavors – “Novacane.” On the track, Ocean sings about meeting and wooing a dentist-to-be over a smooth, pulsating beat. More important, however, is the visual accompanying the song. Staying true to the OFWGKTA tradition of quirky, slightly disturbing music videos, we see Frank Ocean’s face physically ebbing and flowing in the same way one feels when injected with Novocaine at the dentist. The ending offers a fun surprise as well.

@ballerstatus OFWGKTA crooner, Frank Ocean, is a ghost in the new clip for his popular track, “Novacane,” where he numbs the pain in his bedroom all by himself.

The Odd Future member gets his fix in the trippy Nabil-directed clip for the first single from the commercial release of his debut, Nostalgia, Ultra. It features Ocean rubbing his face over and over with white powder, while visions of women, tigers, pandas, and geishas run through his mind. Yep, he’s hallucinating all by his lonely. That is, until he gets slapped back into reality.

Nostalgia, Ultra is slated to drop next month.

Despite all of the half-ass fan-made music videos for Frank Ocean’s drugged-out R&B “f*ck me numb” track “Novacane,” he and his camp felt it was necessary to put out some official visuals for the track as the store sale of his Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape rolls up here on July 26th.

Watch This: “Acura Integurl” by Frank Ocean

I’m not really sure if we’re supposed to know what this is about–all of the psychotropic morphs make it somewhat esoteric–but the gist I’m catching is that Frank has a massive drug addiction of various components that spikes whenever he can’t get a certain girl (for some reason, all I can think of is Mrs. Dubose and her morphine addiction in To Kill A Mockingbird). I doubt you could really argue anything else without touching on that hypotheses. Regardless, it matches the topic of the track, so there really isn’t any criticism necessary.

I’ve always preferred Frank in more of a cameo setting, but then again, I don’t dig on R&B much, so it’s all just something of Drake filler to me. Everyone else seems to be digging it though, so give the video a watch, listen to the song, throw up your thoughts, and do whatever else it is you do. @ology
