Prison Officials Change Reason For Detaining T.I.; Claims Unauthorized Guests Were On Bus
T.I. was sent back to prison because his manager and TV producers were with him on a luxury bus after he left a Forrest City, Arkansas prison.
The rapper had served 11 months of a 12 month sentence for violating his probation in September of 2009, by being in possession of drugs.According to a report obtained by the Associated Press today (September 8th) from the Department of Justice, his three associates were not supposed to be on the bus as he traveled to a half way house in Georgia.
The rapper, who was released from the Arkansas prison on August 31st, was whisked back to an Atlanta federal prison on September 1st, allegedly over his mode of transportation, which was a luxury bus.
Now, officials are claiming that T.I.’s associates, which included his manager and two VH1 producers, were not authorized to be on the bus.
They claim that T.I. was also conducting business on the bus, because the rapper announced he was filming the reality show shortly after he got off of the luxury vehicle.
TMZ produced photos of T.I. just minutes after he left the prison on August 31st, which show that the prison staff had full knowledge of his mode of transportation, as well as who was getting on and off of the bus.
His legal team told TMZ that prison officials are just attempting to justify their reasoning for taking the rapper back to prison.
AP — Documents show Grammy-winning rapper T.I. was sent back to federal prison after corrections officials discovered his manager and a TV producer were traveling with him on a luxury bus as he transferred to a halfway house in Georgia.
The Department of Justice report obtained by The Associated Press on Thursday said the two were not authorized to travel or conduct business with the rapper during the journey from a federal prison in Arkansas.
T.I.’s attorney, Steve Sadow, says no business was conducted during last week’s trip because the deals were already finalized.
T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, had been released a month early from a sentence for a probation violation. A VH1 reality show and book deal were announced within hours of his release.
Federal officials declined comment. T.I. remains in federal prison in Atlanta.
