Amidst a so far sold out F.A.M.E. tour with Chris Brown, Kelly Rowland and T-Pain, Young Money rapper TYGA takes a moment to R.O.A.R. with the youth in each city he visits.
The empowerment campaign, Reach Out And Represent, he told HipHopWired is his way of making his voice resonate beyond the jungle of music marketing.
“A lot of kids are influenced by music so I just wanted to take my voice and that influence that I have on them already and just influence them to do other things. Not everybody can be a rapper, of course, not everybody can do music, of course… it’s a lot of other outlets in life.”
April L. Vance, White House Liaison; Dr. Bilal Beckles, DDS; and Victor T. Sanders, CEO of Palmieri Jeans joined TYGA in front of a Washington, DC audience to talk the difference between a job and a career, being a visionary, and what aspirations the youth had in mind.
“A lot of kids don’t have a lot of mentor figures to look up to so they relate to some of these younger artists like myself and they live through us, kind of, and they look to us as their older brother or older sister or what have you,” TYGA said.
He attributes his own success, including a Grammy nomination, to being “self-motivated,” and he plans to continue exploring what it’s like to be a young person through his music.
His sophomore studio album, Careless World: Rise of the Last King, is slated for release November 19.
“It’s basically a story that I wrote based on my life … everything from dealing with love, to being young, to thinking you know it all,” he said. “You know, all types of things that I fee like kids like myself deal with.”
The R.O.A.R. speaking tour is in partnership with La Belle Vie foundation’s BULU (Be U Love U) program. The next stop on the 28-city journey is Wednesday, Sept. 21 at Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, OH.
