What is Meego OS Demo Video – Below is a Video Demo of the Pre-Alpha Version of the Meego OS Tablet edition. For More Details on Meego OS Visit their Official Website – Just in case you didn’t know Meego is the Joint merging of the two Linux based operating systems Maemo OS and Moblin OS. Moblin was project started by both The Linux Foundation along with the Intel Corporation as an open source OS, designed to work best on the Intel Atom processor, and built primarily for netbooks. Maemo OS is built on Debian linux running a forked Hildon application framework (or desktop environment aka User Interface) and is designed for Mobile Devices such as a smart phones, UMPC or tablet PC. Maemo is owned by Nokia and while many aspects of the Operating system are open source, Maemo is not entirely open. Nokia has contributed allot of their code to the open source linux community though. They even submitted a bug fix to the linux kernel that helped long time smart phone competitor Motorola with a random reboot issue they were having with the Moto Droid. The Fully Open Source equivalent to Maemo would be Mer a virtually identical linux desktop environment that was release by Nokia that contains none of Nokia’s copyrighted and proprietary software.
So than What is Meego OS?
Meego OS is the Love child of both Nokia’s and Intel’s Linux OS ventures that are sponsored controlled and supported by The Linux Foundation! Meego is 100% Open Source and will always stay that way. Meego is designed (in theory) to work on your TV, PC, Netbook and Mobile Phone and sync them all together. Meego wants to control your social life too. It aims to have Facebook, Twitter and a whole other gang of features baked right into the OS. So will they do it and will it be any good? Only time will tell but I just download the latest copy FOR FREE from the official Meego website and I am about to give it a spin. The Mobile and tablet version has not been released yet but the Netbook remix is so I figured I would give it a demo. I will upload a video review when try Meego Netbook OS for the first time.
